Renwick takes the Top Dollar

Jumping big fences is all about power and British rider Laura Renwick’s partner Top Dollar VI has that by the bucketload. Clearing the final 1.95m fence in the Lemieux Six Bar with ease, the pair took the win as the only combination to remain faultless after four rounds.

“I hate to say he makes it easy, but the strength he has is special,” said Laura of the 10-year-old stallion, joking: “I just wish I had a bit more control!”

This class involves the fences being raised in each round; a pole on the floor resulting in elimination. By round four, only four combinations remained. Laura and Top Dollar set the standard, producing their faultless run at the final four-fence line from the off. However, each one of the three that followed – Jos Verlooy and Fabregas (BEL), Michael Pender and Hearton de Bois Halleux (IRL), and Emily Moffitt and Copain du Perchet (GBR) – all faulted handing Laura the win.

Laura, who has now won five out of her last six six-bar classes, is considering jumping Top Dollar in the show’s feature Longines FEI World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

“He is becoming more adaptable and we know each other now,” said Laura, who has also been a puissance winner with Top Dollar. “I don’t know where he gets his power from, but I am thankful he doesn’t buck!”
