Displays

Olympia always has a fantastic line up of equestrian displays and this year is no exception.

The Ukrainian Cosacks

The Ukrainian Cossacks will be at the show for the first time since 2001. This team of riders will demonstrate their skill and bravery as they perform amazing feats at high speed. The display is one of the most thrilling equestrian spectacles in the world and is bound to have you on the edge of your seat.

The Cossacks are the Heroes of Ukrainian history noted for their horsemanship and military skill, famed for their courage and daring. Instantly recognisable by their distinctive traditional dress, through history they have been regarded as brave noble warriors and many countries have sought them as allies.

The earliest documented records of Cossacks date from 1490 when they fought in campaigns against the Turks and successfully conquered the Turkish fortress of Ochakov. The Cossacks story is rich with conflict and bloodshed, their contribution to many historic battles noted in the annals of time.

The mounted display team that was first formed in 1990 aimed to revive the traditions of horse drill and mounted exercises by young Cossacks. Today they treat audiences to a taste of the whip cracking and dare devil riding that intimidated their enemies and awed their allies.

The Household Cavalry

And that's not all, for The Household Cavalry will be making a welcome comeback this year and adding a twist to their beautiful musical ride in celebration of the centenary of the show.

The Household Cavalry comprises soldiers from both The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals regiments, two of the oldest and most senior regiments in the British Army, dating back to 1660. They are seen carrying out ceremonial duties at many of the large State and Royal ocasions throughout the year.

However, this does not mean that the Household Cavalry does not serve a more traditional military role as well. Most of the soldiers and officers are in fact 'dual-trained' and as such could be draughted into battle in times of serious conflict.

This year visitors to Olympia will be treated to a display of speed and precision from the Musical Ride which compromises 26 horses and riders and a drummer. The high level to which this close knit team is trained becomes obvious as horse and rider perform in perfect harmony.
